What is cystoscopy?

It is an endoscopy of the urinary bladder via the urethra and it is carried out with a cystoscope. The urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body. The cystoscope has lenses like a telescope or microscope. These lenses let the physician focus on the inner surfaces of the urinary tract. Cystoscopes range from pediatric to adult and from the thickness of a pencil up to approximately 9mm and have a light at the tip.

Cystoscopy may be recommended for any of the following conditions:

• Urinary tract infections
• Blood in the urine (hematuria)
• Loss of bladder control (incontinence) or overactive bladder

How does Albarran Cytoscope Deflector work?

Albarran cystoscope deflector has a thin tube with a camera and light at the end. During a cystoscopy, this tube is inserted through urethra into bladder so the doctor can visualize the inside of the bladder. The urethra is the tube that carries urine out of the bladder. Magnified images from the camera are displayed on a screen where a doctor can see them.

A simple modification of converting the flat Albarran plate into a cylinder facilitates control of catheters, laser fibers or electrodes placed through the instrument.
